NHS waiting times for ultrasound scans have been soaring due to disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to a recent analysis from the Labour Party:

Figures published by NHS England show that of the 840,742 people waiting for diagnostic tests, 468,622 are waiting more than 6 weeks for diagnostic tests. More than half, (55.7 per cent) of patients were waiting longer than six weeks for vital diagnostic tests in April 2020. In February 2020, before the pandemic hit, this was 2.8 per cent (29,832 people).

For many people this can be too long to wait for a diagnosis in time for effective treatment.

Standing apart from the competition

As a new organisation, they needed a full brand design and an online platform on which to take appointment bookings.

Their main competitors were using stereotypical, dated design styles based around female and baby medical themes – lots of pink and blue, non inclusive and all very feminine. They were also using large volumes of text content making their offering hard to understand.

This made it easy for us to differentiate the Ultrasound Wales brand from its competition.

Making waves

We took the idea of waves from the ultrasound treatment itself and the clinic’s proximity to the River Wye. We created a bold and easily recognisable logotype combining stylised letterforms with a graphic wave pattern.

Set against a fresh palette of blues and greens that nods to both maritime and medical. The font, Quicksand, gives a modern, clean and friendly feel.

Ready for business

We provided printed collateral, clinic signage and a website that can manage appointment bookings – everything they needed to open the doors and welcome their first customers, confident that their brand reflects exactly who they aspire to be.

Ultrasound Wales were now ready to provide an invaluable service – providing essential and often urgent diagnostic services while also reducing the waiting list and burden on the NHS.
